Liverpool 1-3 Aston Villa

25/08/2009 Sam 13 comments

How much depressed I was to write this, I just managed it. Read on…if you dare.

Liverpool F.C lost 2 of their first 3 games this season, after only losing 2 in all of last season. They had many chances early on, before Lucas scored an own goal for the Reds from an Aston Villa set piece. The second came in stoppage time, when Laurson headed in from ANOTHER set piece. Liverpool went into the half time break 2-0 down.

Liverpool came out in the second half unchanged, and caused problems for most of the half. Dirk Kuyt hit the bar, and Friedel did superbly to make a few good saves. Finally Liverpool managed to break the Villa defence, with Fernando Torres with a great finish. But that goal was soon to count as nothing, as skipper Steven Gerrard conceded a careless penalty. Penalty hero Pepe Reina couldn’t save the penalty though as Ashley Young buried The Reds, sending Reina the wrong way. Fernando Torres hit the post, but the final score was Liverpool 1-3 Aston Villa.

There have been talks of Liverpool finishing about 9th, even getting relegated. Manchester United lost 4 games last season, and still won the league. We’ve lost 2 and we’ve only played 3 games.

There are 3 ways we can play better.

Liverpool vs Aston Villa

24/08/2009 Sam 1 comment

Liverpool will play Aston Villa on their 3rd game of the season today. Last time they met, it was Steven Gerrard who stood out with his first Premier League hat-trick.

but all eyes will be mainly on Glen Johnson. He migt aswell be nominated for the team of the season right now. Skrtel is a doubt, while other signing Alberto Aquilani is still out injured. Apart from that, Rafa Benitez has a fresh squad to choose from, including suprise player Lucas. The Brazilian shown he can play well, and also got  call up from Brazil.

Likely line up: Reina, Johnson, Carragher, Ayala, Insua, Lucas, Mashcerano, Kuyt, Benayoun, Gerrard, Torres

Score last season: Liverpool 5-0 Villa

Likely Score: Liverpool 3-0 Villa

Liverpool 4-0 Stoke

20/08/2009 Sam 1 comment

Liverpool won their first game at anfield easily, with a 4-0 win over Stoke City. It only took Torres 4 minutes to get his first goal at Anfield this season, a simple goal from about 6 yards, provided by Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard. The second goal came on the stroke of Half Time, when Glen Johnson Acrobatically scored after Kuyt’s shot had been saved. Insua also had a great chance to get the second, but shot into the side netting.

Half Time: Liverpool 2-0 Stoke

In the second half, Stoke began to feel more confident in the first few minues. Reina brilliantly stopped Delap by diving to his left. But the match was well and truly settled with about 15 minutes to go, when Steven Gerrard produced some great skill for Dirk Kuyt to tap in from a few yards. In stoppage time it was Glen Johnson again who ran at the defenders before his deflected cross found its way to David N’gog’s head thanks to Sorenson.

Full Time: Liverpool 4-0 Stoke

Why Stoke can Still make us pay

19/08/2009 Sam Leave a comment

Stoke City. It’s fair to say they’re not in the same league as Liverpool, not in terms of the Premier League, but in terms of the way they play and their players. So Stoke, we should beat them every time we play them. We probably will beat them tonight, but don’t already start setting up your party before it finishes. In my opinion, Stoke are a very good team, and they can do well in big games if they try. You saw how Spurs outplayed us, and we’ve only had about 48 hours to improve. If  Stoke believe they have what it takes to play the way Spurs did, then they can beat us.

Rafa Benitez. Tactical genius? Not exactly. A great manager, very much agreed, but he needs to start playing more attacive football. So here is my line up:

Reina, Johnson, Agger, Carragher, Dossena, Kuyt, Gerrard, Mashcerano, Benayoun, Torres

It’s ashame Skrtel and Aqualini are out, but I like the way Agger plays more then Skrtel. He gets the ball up, shoots from nowhere, and can score. Remember last season? We hit the woodwork a couple of times, but the game finished 0-0. The game can’t be the same this time.

Liverpool F.C vs Stoke City

18/08/2009 Sam 1 comment

Liverpool will try and forget what happened on Sunday, as The Reds face Stoke City on Wednesday night. Rafa’s side started their campaign with a poor loss to Spurs, but hope to bounce back up with 3 points Wednesday night. Torres should start, despite limping early on in the Tottenham game. Carragher should start, and Skrtel is unknown. Also, will Riera start? For some reason, he was left out of the Tottenham game, and nothing was said about injury. Is this something to do with an unknown deal?

Liverpool are favourites by miles, despite drawing at home to Stoke last season. This is a chance for Liverpool to get back up there with the Big 4, (could soon be Big 5 with Man City), as they all won their games on the opening weekend of the Premier League. Liverpool have had only about 2 days to improve. Can they do it?

Update: Skrtel is out for about 2 weeks with a broken jaw.

Tottenham 2-1 Liverpool

16/08/2009 Sam 1 comment

Same old story as last season…

Liverpool began their campaign with a 2-1 loss at White Hart Lane. The Reds were outplayed for the majority of the game, and Spurs once again beat them at their home ground. Tottenham began brightly, Robbie Keane forcing 2 great saves from Liverpool keeper Pepe Reina. The deadlock was finally broken by a Goal Of The Month contender wonder goal by Benoit Assuo-Ekotto, which meant Spurs would go into half time with a 1-0 lead.

Liverpool pushed hard at the beginning of the second half, forcing an early corner and more. They finally got their reward as Worth-Every-Penny signing Glen Johnson made a run which no other full-back would come close trying to do what he did. He ran into the area, forcing goalkeeper Gomes to bring him down. There was only going to be one outcome: Penalty and yellow card.

Captain fantastic then kept his cool, as usual, and made the score 1-1. The lead didn’t last so long though, as former Newcastle defender Bassong headed into the net from a free kick. From that point on, Skrtel was took off for Ayala, Benayoun replaced Babel, and for Spurs, Peter Crouch came on for Robbie Keane. Liverpool should have had 2 penalties in the last 10 minutes, the first insisted the referee supported Tottenham or hated Liverpool in one way. The other was aclear handball for the linesman. None were given, and the final score was: Tottenham 2-1 Liverpool F.C

LFC vs. Atletico Madrid

08/08/2009 Sam 11 comments

Liverpool F.C are set to play Atletico Madrid today at Anfield. It is set to start at 3:00PM in the U.K. You will not get to see new signing Aquilani play, as he is out for approx. 4-8 weeks. This is Liverpools last chance to prove themselves before the start of the season, when they play Tottenham next week on Sunday.

Liverpool last played Atletico Madrid at Anfield in a 1-1 draw, a dramatic last minute penalty from Steven Gerrard. Let’s hope this game is more exciting.
